CCA Is Compiling
Performing Artist Directory
HARTFORD â The Connecticut Commission on the Arts (CCA) is accepting applications from resident music, dance and theater groups, storytellers and writers who wish to be included in its Directory of Performing Artists. The application deadline is October 2.
The directory is designed to provide employment opportunities for artists who specialize in public performances and/or educational workshops. The Commission on the Arts publicizes directory artists through both a printed and online catalog, and provides funding support to organizations that present performances and workshops by directory members.
Eligible applicants to the directory include authors, poets and storytellers. Also eligible are performing groups in the following categories: dance (ballet, modern, jazz), music (chamber, choral, classical, contemporary, folk, jazz and orchestra), heritage arts (specialists in the presentation of ethnic or historic American performing traditions), opera, and theater arts (classical and experimental theater, mime and puppetry).
Selection criteria for artists/ensembles wishing to become directory members requires that applicants be Connecticut residents and demonstrate an ability to tour the state through the review of promotional and other written materials, video tapes and presenter evaluations. All applicants are evaluated and approved by a panel of professional peers for artistic quality and the ability to perform self-described services.
Performing groups and storytellers must have a minimum performance experience of two years and have contracted with at least five different presenters during that period. Authors and poets must have published at least one book of fiction or poetry, or eight separate works in literary magazines and books, in addition to having read their works at three or more public engagements during the past year.
Application forms and guidelines are available by phoning the Commission on the Arts at 860/566-4770 or by downloading materials from the commissionâs web site at www.ctarts.org/directry.htm. Questions may be addressed to Susan Docker, program manager, at the above phone number or via email to sdocker@ctarts.org.
