ON THE ROAD WITH SHANNON HICKS… for September 1
ON THE ROAD WITH SHANNON HICKS⦠for September 1
Â
Â
*Just in case you havenât heard it yet, the RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE/BEASTIE BOYS concert that was scheduled and then postponed from August 11 at The Meadows in Hartford has been officially cancelled for that venue. Cash refunds are available at the point of purchase; credit cards are being automatically refunded if you purchased your tickets over the phone or the Internet. Donât give up on either of the band coming to Connecticut before the end of the year, however. Talks are already in the works for a possible new show at Hartford Civic Center.
*Also changed is the date of the 2 SKINNEE JâS CD release party next week at The Webster Theatre in Hartford. The CD release (originally scheduled for September 11), and the party, looks like it will be happening in October instead.
*So were you among the thousands who coughed up the dough for the so-called âfinalâ appearance by KISS when the boys played at The Meadows in July? Well the band is doing what Iâd like to call âA ROLLING STONES Momentâ (as in, âThis is the final time, no more, weâre hanging up our guitars and calling it a dayâ): Seems that appearance wasnât the last for Connecticut fans of the band after all, since tickets for an October 3 show at the 5,000-seat Mohegan Sun Uncas Pavilion went on sale this week. Yup, Paul, Gene and those other two behind the makeup are coming back, this time to Uncasville. Tickets are $35 and $60 apiece, and this time it will be SKID ROW (still sans SEBASTIAN BACH), not TED NUGENT, opening the show. Doors open at 6, and showtime is 7 pm.
*A new season of Aldrich After Hours, a popular music series presented once monthly at Ridgefieldâs Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, has to be mentioned now that the beginning of the fall go-round is less than a month away. On September 29, JOSH ROUSE, a 27-year old singer-songwriter who has enjoyed extensive national tours with the likes of AIMEE MANN, JOE HENRY and COWBOY JUNKIES, gets the new season going. BEN ALLISON AND MEDICINE WHEEL continues the music on October 27. Allison is a big jazz guy, even though he has yet to reach the age 30 milestone (either that, or he has only just this year reached it).
And in November, KRISTIN HERSH, a folk-rock artist, makes her Aldrich debut while still enjoying the success of her 1999 release Sky Model. If Hershâs name is sort of ringing a bell but you just canât figure of where you have heard it, try thinking of the name of the lead singer of the now-defunct THROWING MUSES. Aha! Now youâve got it!
Performances are Friday nights at the museum, which is at 258 Main Street (Route 35). Shows run approximately two hours, beginning at 7 pm, and admission is $20. Oh, and reservations are necessary, so call 203/438-4519.
Until next week, Iâll be seeing you... on the road.
Questions and comments should be sent to Shannon Hicks, c/o Bee Publishing Co., 5 Church Hill Road, Newtown 06470, or shannon@thebee.com. Include a phone number for confirmation, please. If you donât have a stamp or a piece of paper or a writing utensil that works, give me a call! The phone number at the office is 426-3141. Shows listed on the calendar at club locations are for ages 21 and over unless specified.
