Public Nights At WCSU Observatory

DANBURY — Western CT State University will host two open house events in September, where the public will be invited to explore the university’s observatory and view the night sky through its 20-inch telescope.

On Wednesday, September 6, the astronomy program will host its first public observatory night of the school year. Visitors will, weather permitting, be able to view celestial objects including the moon, which will be just past its first quarter, along with the planets Uranus and Neptune, and brilliant stars.

Entry to the observatory is in Higgins Hall, through Room 216, on the university’s midtown campus. The hall is on Seventh Avenue.

The following week, on September 14, the astronomy program will host an open house. Visitors that night can expect to see Uranus and Neptune, the Andromeda galaxy, star clusters and the moon.

Both evenings will run from 8 to 10 pm. In the event of inclement weather or very cloudy skies, call 837-8671 one hour prior to the viewing start time for updated program plans.
