Apply Now For Coast Guard Academy

The United States Coast Guard Academy is now accepting and processing applications to the Class of 2005. Appointments are tendered solely on the basis of an annual nationwide competition with no congressional nominations or geographical quotas. Applications must be submitted to the Director of Admissions prior to December 15, 2000. Candidates must arrange to participate in either the SAT I or ACT prior to or including the December 2000 administration.

Appointments are based on the candidate’s high school record, performance on either the SAT I or ACT, and leadership potential as demonstrated by participation in high school activities, community service, and part-time employment. Most successful candidates rank in the top quarter of their high school class and have demonstrated proficiency in both mathematical and applied science.

Candidates must be unmarried at the time of the appointment, have no legal obligations, and must have reached the age of 17 but not 23 by July 1, 2001. Candidates must be assured of high school graduation by June 30, 2001.

Coast Guard cadets obtain an excellent undergraduate education at no personal expense. In addition, they receive pay and allowances for living expenses. The Academy curriculum emphasizes engineering and science, leads to a Bachelor of Science degree, and establishes a solid foundation for a challenging career. Graduates of the Academy are commissioned as Ensigns in the Untied States Coast Guard.
