Returns To Newtown
Newtown Youth Servicesâ peer AIDS education group, NYCAAP (Newtown Youth Creating AIDS Awareness for Peers), will once again sponsor a display of part of the national NAMES Project Aids Memorial Quilt at Newtown High School during the week of World AIDS Day this year (November 27 through December 1).
The NYCAAP students have selected two of the four blocks of panels to be displayed, but two blocks have not yet been chosen. Anyone in the community who has lost someone to AIDS and presented a panel to the NAMES Project in the past, and would like to have that panel come as part of the NYCAAP display, is invited to contact NYCAAP at 270-4335. Portions of the Quilt, which has become too large to display in its entirety, are loaned to high schools and organizations around the country every year to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and memorialize those who have died with AIDS.
It is also traditional to present and register new panels for the Quilt at locations where it is being displayed. If anyone in the community would like to make a panel for a loved one and present it during the week of the display, or if you would like to help in making a panel, please call Youth Services.
