Tree Peonies Program, Sept. 9

The Town & Country Garden club will welcome Kasha Furman for a presentation on “Tree Peonies: History, Care and Cultivation” on Wednesday, September 9, at Newtown Senior Center.

The 45-minute slide talk will cover how tree peonies – China’s national flower – are different from herbaceous peonies, planting techniques, soil and site requirements, pests and diseases. Deer do not like peonies and fencing is not required.

Mrs Furman and her husband David have been creating their Cricket Hill Garden in Thomaston since 1988, when they fell under the spell of tree peonies and endeavored to create a peony heaven.

All are welcome, and reservations are not needed. The senior center is at 14 Riverside Road in Sandy Hook. Call Liz Arneth for info, 426-5359.
