Southbury Man Charged With Internet Sex Offenses

Police reported this week that they arrested a Southbury man on the morning of August 24, charging him with multiple crimes in connection with his alleged Internet-based attempt to have “sexual encounters” with a Newtown youth under age 16.

Police Chief Michael Kehoe said September 5 that police arrested Christopher Jandrok, 24, of 570 Fish Rock Road, Southbury, charging him with risk of injury to a minor, criminal attempt to commit risk of injury to a minor, use of a computer to entice a minor to engage in sexual activity, possession of narcotics, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police typically disclose such arrests soon after they occur.

Chief Kehoe declined to disclose the gender of the victim or to disclose other details of the case, terming the pending prosecution a “sensitive” matter.

In a written statement on the arrest, investigating Detective Jason Frank stated, “This investigation involved communications through the use of computers whereby [Jandrok] drove to Newtown with the intent of having sexual encounters with a minor. Upon arrival of the suspect, police placed [Jandrok] into custody.”

Chief Kehoe said that the arrest did not involve an arrest warrant, but was made by police as an on-sight arrest. He declined to say specifically where the arrest occurred or to provide other details about the case.

During a search of the vehicle that was driven by Jandrok, police uncovered a pipe that contained marijuana residue, resulting in the two drug charges, Chief Kehoe said.

Police made the arrest at 10:15 am on August 24. Following the arrest, police held Jandrok on $25,000 bail for arraignment in Danbury Superior Court on August 25.

Chief Kehoe said the investigation is ongoing and may result in additional charges.

Chief Kehoe could not be reached for comment before deadline on September 7 for comment on a published report that a police officer using the Internet played the role of a non-existent minor in seeking to lure Jandrok into an arrest.
