Vehicular Violations
On the night of August 31, Newtown police went to the Trumbull Police Department to take custody of a man for whom they held an arrest warrant in connection with past offenses.
Newtown police charged Angelo Rivera, 21, of Bridgeport with second degree failure to appear in court, driving while under suspension, and making an improper turn.
After arrest processing, Newtown police released Rivera from custody on $500 bail for a September 14 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.

Cellular Telephone
Police said they charged motorist David Farrell, 49, of Bethel at about 7 am September 1 with illegal use of a handheld cellular telephone while driving and also with driving while under suspension. Police said they had stopped Farrell on Dodgingtown Road for the cell phone violation.
After processing the case, police released Farrell on $200 bail for a September 19 court appearance.
Reading Glasses
On Monday, September 4, following the Labor Day Parade, a person found a pair of reading glasses near the intersection of Sugar Street and Main Street and then turned them over to police for safekeeping. The owner may claim the eyeglasses by contacting Sergeant Darlene Froehlich at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841.
Moving Violations
Police said they spotted motorist Tiwana Council, 31, of Danbury driving southward on Main Street about 9:30 pm September 4 with a left rear tail lamp that was not operating, so they stopped her to investigate.
Police charged Council with failure to have a functioning tail lamp and with driving with a suspended vehicle registration. After posting $40 bail, police released her for a September 19 court appearance.
Multiple Charges
Police report that on September 1, they located Robert Abric, 35, of 49 Botsford Hill Road at his residence and charged him on a warrant with multiple offenses in connection with August 24 incident.
Police arrested Abric on charges of third degree criminal mischief, interfering with an Emergency 911 call, and with two counts of third degree assault. On a separate warrant, police charged Abric with violation of probation.
Police held Abric on $75,000 bail for a September 5 court arraignment.
Banner Stolen
Police said this week that sometime between the night of August 17 and morning of August 18, someone stole a 20-foot-long banner advertising the Newtown Road Races on September 2. The banner, which has red lettering on a white background, had been hung from the Old Hawleyville Road overpass and facing eastbound traffic on Interstate 84. The banner is owned by Newtown Youth Services.
Police ask anyone with information about the theft to contact them at 426-5841.
Toddy Hill Collision
Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Toddy Hill Road and Button Shop Road about 11:30 am August 28.
The crash involved motorist James Rheoric, 39, of 109 Toddy Hill Road, who was driving a 1996 Chevrolet truck, and motorist Richard Carruth, 77, of Southbury, who was driving a 2002 Lincoln Town Car, police said.
Carruth was treated at the scene for a cut elbow, police said. Rheoric received an infraction ticket for making a restricted turn.
Botsford MVA
Police report a two-vehicle accident beneath the Housatonic Railroad overpass on Botsford Hill Road about 8:45 am September 2.
Motorist Carla Decarvalho, 28, of Danbury, who was driving a 1999 Mitsubishi Mirage sedan westward on Botsford Hill Road, was rounding a curve at the railroad overpass when she lost control on the wet pavement and slid across the road, colliding head-on in the eastbound lane with eastbound motorist Kathleen Torreso, 35, of 72 Marlin Road, who was driving a 2003 Pontiac Montana, police said.
Both drivers were transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said.
Police later charged Decarvalho with driving at a speed too fast for conditions, driving under suspension, and driving without automotive insurance. She is scheduled to appear in court September 14 to answer the charges.
Car Off Road
About 7:40 am September 5, motorist Rosa Marie Lopes, 77, of Southbury, who was driving a 2002 Nissan Sentra westward on Interstate 84 near the Bancroft Road overpass, swerved to the left and then swerved to the right, causing the auto to strike guard cabling and a tree alongside the right road shoulder, state police said.
Sandy Hook volunteer firefighters went to the scene. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Lopes to Danbury Hospital for treatment of head/neck pain, state police said.
Six Charges
About 10:13 pm September 5, police served a warrant against John C. Allen, 33, of Sodus, N.Y., at a Hanover Road residence, charging Allen with six offenses stemming from an August 2004 incident in Newtown.
Police said the crimes stem from Allenâs alleged use of a stolen credit card. Police charged Allen with first degree failure to appear in court, violation of probation, credit card theft, third degree identity theft, charging less than $500 on a revoked credit card, and sixth degree larceny.
Police held Allen on $30,000 bail for a September 6 court arraignment.
Breach of Peace
Police said that Gary Petroski, 63, of Easton turned himself over to them on September 5 after learning that they a held a warrant for his arrest.
Police charged Petroski with breach of peace for allegedly having thrown a cup of coffee at another person during an altercation at 151 South Main Street on June 24. Police released Petroski on a promise to appear in court on September 20.
Camera Found
Police report that a digital camera was found inside a camera bag at the intersection of Main Street and Sugar Street following the Labor Day Parade on September 4. The owner should contact Sergeant Darlene Froehlich at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841, to claim the items which police are holding for safekeeping.
