Documentary Film About The History Of Hawleyville To Be Shown On Friday, September 12
Exit 9, The Way of Life in Hawleyville, 1925 will be shown at Edmond Town Hall Theater, 45 Main Street, Friday, September 12, 7 pm.
The film is the result of two years of research and filmmaking by Donna Kern Ball, a “HawleyVillager” for the past 30 years. It was made in anticipation of the 100th anniversary of Hawleyville Volunteer Fire Company, and was shown at their recent banquet. Much of the film is devoted to the fire company, and it honors a firefighter who died in the line of duty in 1933. The fire company and its early members were interwoven with everyone in the village. The film depicts the way of life in the 1920’s and 30’s through the memoirs of two of the Rockwell sisters and town historian Dan Cruson’s research on William A. Upham, Eugene Cox, and Bill Honan Jr.
The film is narrated by David Wheeler, director of Economic and Community Development John Voket, and actress Jody Bayer. The film editing was done by Lorenzo Ash.
The screening is free, but all are welcome with general seating and a “pay what you want” donation to offset the film and theater costs.
