Some Good News Amidst The Bad

To the Editor:

All too often we hear of the many tragic events going on in the world around us, both local and worldwide.  Today, we would like to spread some good news around in an effort to show that, despite the tragedies and the sadness in our world, it is the most difficult times that bring us together in an effort to help one another.

Our very dear friend’s brother, Glenn Allen, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) and he requires a bone marrow transplant to save his life.  The Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation provides testing kits at a reduced rate for those who wish to register and become potential bone marrow donors.  In an effort to raise money for this wonderful foundation, and to provide information on how to become a donor, we [hosted] a Benefit BBQ at our home in Sandy Hook on Sunday, September 4, from 1 to 5, at a cost of $20 per ticket.

When we went to our community business owners to request contributions for raffle items and donations, we were met with resounding support! We would like to thank Walker Pressure Washing & Painting, Connecticut School of Jewelry Art, Newtown Wine and Spirits, Coach’s Deli, Old Blue Bird Garage, Newtown Car Care, R. Mathison Flooring, LLC, Colonial Auto Repair, Road Runner Kitchen, Super Fun Inflatables, Newtown Hardware, and Bethel Automotive Service & Repair.  These wonderful business owners have rallied behind us in support of our fundraiser and they have provided us with many wonderful donations for our raffle.  They have also supported the purchase of tickets and we thank them and ask that other members of our community patronize these businesses.

In these times of personal tragedy and natural disaster, it is heartening to find that our community continues to be supportive of its members.

Very truly yours,

William & Shirley Lenhard
