Join The Dam Busters Waterski-a-thon, Benefit LOF
The Sandy-Hook based LOF Adaptive Skiers is inivitingÃÂ the publicÃÂ to join them on Saturday, September 17, for the annual ski marathon event and LOF fundraiser.
No waterski experience is necessary. Both adaptive and able-bodied skiers are welcome. The deadline for registration is Monday, September 12.
Ski marathon participants will have the opportunity to set a fundraising goal, and the fundraising period culminates in a waterski marathon from the Shepaug Dam to the Stevenson Dam and back. The skier raising the highest pledge will receive a grand prize. All participants will receive commemorative T-shirts.
Preregistration is required. All skiers should arrive at the LOF site (90 Housatonic Drive, Sandy Hook) by 8:30 am for check-in.
Skiers will take off at 9 am sharp. LOF has limited equipment available for skier use. Skiers with their own equipment should bring it to the event.
Skiers have the option of doing a 22-mile ski run (round-trip from dam to dam) or the 11-mile ski run (from the Shepaug Dam to the Stevenson Dam). There will be a rest stop set up at Zoar Beach at the halfway point with snacks and refreshments for skiers.
Snacks and drinks will be available upon return at the LOF site.
The minimum age to participate is 11 years old. Jump skis, wakeboards, slalom skis, and sit skis are all permitted. For participants who do not know how to ski, tubing is also permitted.
