On UN International Day of Peace 2025 — Sunday, September 21 — voices from every corner of the planet will sing to send a powerful message: we are one world, one people and we stand together in unity and community.

Newtown Congregational Church will host a Sing for Peace and Unity Open Mic. The event will begin at noon with all invited to sing “Get Together” by The Youngbloods and “What A Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong.

For those who would like to join (non-mandatory) rehearsals, one is planned for Sunday, September 14, at 9 am.

Organizers are also seeking individuals to perform songs, dance, poetry, etc with the theme of peace and/or unity.

Audience members — those who wish to simply enjoy the performances — are also invited.

For additional information contact Rich Collins, 203-241-7465.

Community choirs, school choirs, professional ensembles, soloists and other singing groups around the world have already registered to host similar events on September 21. As of September 11, there were 161 events in 158 cities — representing at least 8,960 voices — registered at singforunity.com.

Sing for Unity originated from the choir Female Singers, based in the small coastal town of Ebeltoft, Denmark. What began as a small idea and a heartfelt wish to unite and come together in solidarity has grown into a global movement, inviting choirs and singers around the world to raise their voices together for unity, community, and hope.

Newtown Congregational Church will host a Sing for Peace and Unity Open Mic, one of thousands of similar events being planned around the world for September 26.
