*I canât say that Iâm thrilled with the CityCenter Danbury publicity machine this year, considering the 24th annual Taste of Greater Danbury returns this weekend and we have yet to receive a press release about the two-day event.
Lucky for you guys â especially those who love MARSHALL TUCKER â I found some notices online and can remind you that The Marshall Tucker Band has a pair of shows during this weekendâs big event.
Taste of Greater Danbury will run Saturday and Sunday, September 11 and 12, and will feature free performances of MTB on Saturday at 8 and Sunday at 2 pm. (Colleen Gibbons Ballantine, you should be home this weekend!)
In addition to those performances, Taste of Greater Danbury will also host performances on Saturday by THE KIND BUDS at 1, FATTIE ROOTS at 3:15, GUNSMOKE at 4:30, I-95âs Battle of the Bands at 6, and ETHAN JAMES at 7. Fireworks will follow the Marshall Tucker Band at 10 pm.
Sundayâs musical line-up includes TOBY GOODSHANK at 1, WHITEWOOD at 4:30, and doo-wop band IN HARMONY to close out the weekend at 6. In addition to all this music there will be plenty of food and drink samples from area restaurants, plus a showcase of Connecticut specialty foods, childrenâs entertainment, crafts, and something called âThe Great Danbury Street Fair.â For sketchy details visit www.CityCenterDanbury.com.
*Also taking place Sunday afternoon here in town will be a performance by THE ADULTS, who will provide the music for Firehouse Ride 2010, a fundraiser for Newtown Hook & Ladder Co. #1.
A 40-mile motorcycle ride will start from and return to The One-Eyed Pig at 71 South Main Street. Once the riders begin returning around noon there will be an afternoon pig roast and plenty of live music. Cost is $30 per bike and driver, with $15 for passengers or general admission for those who want to support the volunteer fire company and its efforts to fund a new house.
Until next week, Iâll be seeing you⦠on the road.
Questions and comments should be sent to Shannon Hicks c/o The Newtown Bee, 5 Church Hill Road, Newtown CT 06470, or shannon@thebee.com, or call the office at 426-3141. Shows listed at clubs are for ages 21 and over unless specified.
