Another Successful Race
To the Editor:
On behalf of the race organizers, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the runners, sponsors, and volunteers of the fifth annual Newtown Road Race 5K and Edward Doherty Memorial Kids Run.Â
This yearâs race attracted 638 registered runners in the 5k event, approximately 150 kids in the fun run, and countless spectators cheering on their friends and family. Although the economy had an impact on fundraising this year, through the generous support of our corporate and individual sponsors, we still managed to raise a significant amount of money for Newtown Youth & Family Services.
Our volunteers worked hard this summer and turned out before sunrise on Saturday morning to set up tents, prepare food, pour water, direct traffic, and do all the things necessary to ensure a smooth operation. An event of this size does not happen without an incredible effort â thank you all.
Several town departments help us pull this race off every year and we would like to extend special thanks to the Newtown Police Department, Highway Department and Parks & Recreation for their cooperation (and patience). Once again, thanks to The Newtown Bee for its usual great coverage of the race.
