Leahy’s Offers $75,000 Matching Grant Toward Habitat For Humanity Friendship Breakfast

DANBURY — The Housatonic Habitat For Humanity (HHFH) will hold its 14th Annual Friendship Breakfast on Friday, September 24, at the Ethan Allen Hotel. Stephen Angel, chairman of the board, and president and CEO of Praxair, will be the guest speaker for the event, which will also include a silent auction and raffle.

The goal of this year’s Friendship Breakfast is to raise funds that will go toward the $200,000 needed for construction materials that will be used to build a two-family home on Linden Place in Danbury. The public can help by attending the Friendship Breakfast and by making a tax-exempt donation.

Individual tickets are $25 and various sponsorships are available, ranging from the Journeyman at $500 to the Developer at $10,000. Donations can be made by cash, check, or credit card.

To make reservations call the Habitat office at 203-744-1340.

Leahy’s Fuels, Inc has generously offered to match all donations up to $75,000. Says Leahy’s Fuels owner Jack Stetson, “We have lived in our Danbury home for 40 years and I have seen the value that home ownership contributes toward family stability. In addition, Leahy’s Fuels has served the greater Danbury area for 93 years. This is a great chance to give back to the community for all the years of their support.”

HHFH Executive Director Sam Dobrotka says, “We are thrilled to be able to partner with Leahy’s Fuels in this way. Their creative generosity will literally change the destiny of a family — particularly the children who will grow up having the stability of a safe and secure home.”

Housatonic Habitat For Humanity is committed to eliminating poverty housing from the greater Danbury area. Each Habitat home is sold to eligible families at cost in the form of an interest free mortgage. To date, HHFH has helped 19 partner families become responsible homeowners.

Habitat For Humanity affiliates around the world have built more than 350,000 houses, providing safe, decent, affordable shelter for more than 1.5 million people in 90-plus countries. A Habitat home is completed somewhere in the world every 21 minutes.
