State Police, Town Police Report Holiday Enforcement

State police have reported their motor vehicle enforcement statistics for the Labor Day weekend from September 3 through September 6.

During that period, state police issued 72 violations for drunk driving, handed out 1,940 speeding tickets, enforced 283 seatbelt violations, and issued 3,440 violations for hazardous activities, such as handheld cellphone usage, following too closely, and unsafe lane changing, among other offenses.

During that period, state police investigated 265 motor vehicle accidents, of which 53 involved injuries. There were two fatal accidents.

Newtown police report that during the Labor Day weekend, they stopped 139 motorists to investigate various offenses.

There were six motor vehicle accident investigations and two drunk driving arrests, police said.
