Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Kevin DiBiase, 26, of New Fairfield turned himself in at the police station about 6:30 am September 7, and was charged with first-degree failure to appear in court and violation of a restraining order, police report.

Police said they held DiBiase on $10,000 bail for an appearance that day in Danbury Superior Court.

Window Broken

Sometime between 10:30 pm on Sunday, September 5, and 10 am on Monday, September 6, someone intentionally broke the front window at Tambascio’s Italian Grill at 1 Dodgingtown Road (Route 302), police said.

Police are investigating the vandalism and ask anyone with information on the incident to contact Officer Maryhelen McCarthy at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Berkshire Road

About 9:36 pm September 3, motorist William Adam, 44, of Rose Lane, was driving a 2006 Toyota station wagon eastward near 33 Berkshire Road, when a deer ran out onto the road, resulting in a collision, police said. Adam was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Stylish Sunglasses

Police report that some Style Science-brand black sunglasses were found at the intersection of Hanover Road and Schoolhouse Hill Road about 1 pm September 6, following the Labor Day Parade. The owner may claim the sunglasses at the police station.

Rear-Ender

Motorist Theresa Bibeau, 20, of 3 Fox Run Lane was driving a Hyundai Sonata southward near 137 South Main Street about 2 pm September 6, and then stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Hyundai was struck from behind by a southbound Nissan Frontier driven by Robert Balinski, 50, of Redding, police said.

There were no injuries. Balinski received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Embankment

Motorist Samantha Williams, 19, of Bethel was driving a 2002 Saturn coupe westward on Meadow Brook Road, near its intersection with Lazybrook Road, about 3:30 pm August 29, when while crossing a small bridge, the right-front section of the vehicle made contact with a concrete bridge wall, police said.

Williams then swerved to the left, and the vehicle went down an embankment, police said.

Williams was not injured. Police issued Williams a written warning for failure to drive to the right.

Warrant

Police report they saw John Sikorski, 39, of 12 Park Lane driving a vehicle on Sugar Street on the afternoon of September 1, after which they stopped him and charged him on a rearrest warrant stemming from an original June 21 motor vehicle accident on Park Lane.

Police said they charged Sikorski with six offenses, including second-degree failure to appear in court, evading responsibility, improper use of a vehicle registration, failure to have automotive insurance, failure to grant the right of way, and driving with a suspended license.

Police released Sikorski on $500 bail for a September 15 court appearance.

Hawleyville

Motorist Joanellen Gereg, 53, of 3 Shady Rest Boulevard was driving a 2007 Honda sedan northward near 32 Hawleyville Road about 8 pm on August 22, when a deer ran onto the road collided with the auto, police said. Gereg was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

DUI Case

Police report that motorist Carlos Sanchez, 29, of Danbury was seen driving over the road’s center lines on southbound Queen Street about 2:20 am September 3, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police charged Sanchez with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right. After he posted $100 bail, police released Sanchez for a September 21 court appearance.

DUI Arrest

Police said that while on patrol in Hawleyville about 1:14 am on September 3, they spotted motorist Christopher Gonda, 25, of Bethel sitting in his vehicle, which was parked on the travel portion of an Exit 9 ramp for eastbound Interstate 84.

After investigating, police charged Gonda with driving under the influence. Gonda posted $100 bail and was released for a September 21 court appearance.

Traffic Accident

A two-vehicle traffic accident occurred on westbound Church Hill Road, near its intersection with Edmond Road about 12:23 pm August 29.

In that incident, motorist Meghan Condon, 16, of 3 Brandywine Lane, who was driving a 2002 Dodge pickup truck, struck the rear end of a 2010 Hyundai coupe driven by Robert Cutler, 56, of Wurtsboro, N.Y., police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Condon for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

 

Rock Through Window

Police received a report on the night of September 5 that someone had thrown a rock through the front window of a house on Meadow Brook Road, near its intersection with Washbrook Road and Pine Tree Hill Road.

Police are investigating the vandalism and ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact them at 203-426-5841.

High School Drugs

Newtown High School personnel found a youth there in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia about 7:36 am on September 3, police report.

Police said that after investigating, they arrested the youth, who is under age 16, on charges of possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following arrest processing, police released the youth on a written promise to appear in Danbury Juvenile Court on September 20. State law shields the identities of people under age 18 who are charged with crimes.

Construction Theft

Police report that unspecified items were stolen from Toll Brothers, Inc’s, construction site on Oakview Road in Sandy Hook. Toll Brothers has constructed the Regency at Newtown age-restricted condominium complex there. The theft occurred in mid-August, police said. Police ask anyone with information on the crime to contact them at 203-426-5841.

Bird Apparatus

Sometime between 8 pm on August 31, and 8:30 am on September 1, someone damaged some loudspeakers that are part of a “Bird-B-Gone” bird control device, which has been in use at the Eichler’s Cove town boating/recreation area on Old Bridge Road at Lake Zoar, police said.

The device was in use to ward off Canada geese, which have created an animal waste problems at the riverine park.

Police are investigating the vandalism and ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them at 203-426-5841. Officer John McCluskey is the investigator.

Keys Found

A set of keys, including a key to a Saturn motor vehicle and a General Motors electronic key fob, were found lying on the road in front of 39 Russett Road in Sandy Hook in mid-August, police said.

The person whose keys have been found should contact Officer John McCluskey at the police station at 203-426-5841 to claim them.

Drug Charge

Police report that late on the night of September 3, they stopped a motorist for a traffic violation near 42 Church Hill Road.

An investigation resulted in a passenger in that vehicle, John Vlahos, 19, of Monroe being arrested on a charge of possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, according to police.

Police released Vlahos on $100 bail for an upcoming appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Assault

About 11:43 pm September 5, police responded to 14 Parmalee Lee Hill Road in response to a report of a fight in progress.

After investigating, police charged Michael Monroe, 34, of 12 Parmalee Hill Road with third-degree assault and disorderly conduct in connection with the incident. Monroe was released on a written promise to appear on September 28 in Danbury Superior Court, police said.

Moving Violations

Police report they stopped motorist Melinda Scofield, 33, of Waterbury on Hawleyville Road, near Covered Bridge Road, about 8 pm September 4, after learning of a motor vehicle violation.

After investigating, police charged Scofield with driving with a suspended license and driving with a suspended vehicle registration.

Scofield was released on $100 bail for a September 21 court appearance.

Hattertown Road

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Hattertown Road, about halfway between its intersections with Dodgingtown Road and Key Rock Road, at about 5 pm September 4.

Motorist Carl Sealund, 39, of 43 Dodgingtown Road was driving a 1993 Toyota coupe northward, as motorist Carol Rowe, 50, of 177 Boggs Hill Road was driving a 2006 Cadillac SUV southward, police report.

The front ends of the two vehicles then collided, police said. Both drivers were transported to Danbury Hospital. Sealund was transported for treatment of injuries; Rowe was transported for a medical evaluation, according to police.

Dodgingtown and Hook & Ladder firefighters were dispatched to the accident. Police are investigating and ask anyone who witnessed the accident to contact them at 203-426-5841.

I-84 Deer

State police report that motorist Darnell Pointer, 41, of The Bronx, N.Y., was traveling in the left lane of eastbound Interstate 84, about seven-tenths of a mile east of Exit 10, on August 30, when Pointer swerved in order to avoid colliding with a deer that had entered the road.

The 2009 Subaru Impreza that Pointer was driving then struck some guardcabling on the road’s median. Pointer was not injured. State police took no enforcement.

Highway Crash

Motorist Emilio Cruz, 19, Southbury, who was driving a 2003 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck eastward on Interstate 84, about 1,500 feet west of Exit 11, was traveling in the right lane when he collided with some guardcabling and a lightpost about 9 pm on August 30, state police said.

Cruz was not injured. Cruz received an infraction for failure to maintain the proper lane.   

Warrant

MV Violations

While monitoring traffic flow near the Main Street flagpole intersection about 1 pm September 8, police stopped motorist Mike St John, 50, of Naugatuck on the western end of Church Hill Road.

Police said they charged St John with failure to display a marker plate, illegal use of a handheld cellphone while driving, and driving with a suspended license.

Following processing, police released St John on $100 bail for a September 23 court appearance.

House Burglaries

Police are investigating two house burglaries that occurred midday on September 7 in the same  area.

The burglaries occurred at a Morris Road home near Poverty Hollow Road, and also at a Poverty Hollow Road home near Morris Road. The incidents occurred between noon and 1 pm.

Various items wee stolen in each burglary, with some electronic devices taken in the Morris Road incident, police said. More than $1,000 worth of items were stolen in each burglary, police said.

Dog Gone

Police are investigating the possible theft of a dog from the town animal shelter on Ethan Allen Road.

A brown-and-white Bernese mountain dog went missing overnight on September 5/6, according to police.

Anyone with information on the matter is asked to call patrol Officer Liam Seabrook at the police station at 203-426-5841, or call Animal Control Officer Carolee Mason at the animal shelter at 203-426-6900.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Carrie Greene, 27, of New Haven turned herself over to police at the police station on the morning of September 9 and was charged with risk of injury to a minor, disorderly conduct, and interfering with police, according to police.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred in Sandy Hook last July 26, police said.

Police released Greene on a promise to appear on September 23 in Danbury Superior Court.
