To The Editor:

I’m seeking re-election to the Board of Finance, where I’ve worked to balance the Town’s funding needs with taxpayers’ ability to afford them. As a Newtown resident for five years with a fiancée in healthcare and her daughters in our schools, I understand the importance of both fiscal responsibility and quality services.

My 30 years of experience in finance, government, and non-profit management prepared me for this role, but it’s the results I’ve delivered that matter most. I spearheaded creation of a joint budget workgroup bringing together elected boards and town departments to identify redundant spending and consolidate services for cost savings. I served on the committee that selected our current Finance Director, ensuring professional leadership in our finance department. I have also advocated for expanded capital planning to provide better long-term forecasting, helping us prepare for future expenses rather than react with emergency borrowing and increased debt.

Through effective budget negotiations with both school district and town departments, I’ve helped maintain Newtown’s strong financial position and bond ratings while ensuring essential services continue. It’s why I pushed for creating the Joint Budget Workgroup to promote transparency and cooperation among our boards, despite some resistance.

The Board of Finance must work collaboratively with other boards — P&Z, Economic Development, Board of Education, and the Selectmen — because every decision has a financial impact on residents. Whether it’s economic development, Fairfield Hills revitalization, or planning and conservation choices, we need independent non-partisan leadership focused on generating revenue opportunities, accountability, and reducing tax increases, while minimizing future liabilities. It’s what’s needed in Newtown.

My proven track record of successful budget management, combined with my commitment to collaborative governance, positions me to continue delivering results for Newtown. I would appreciate your continued support on Election Day, November 4.
