‘Flower Essences,’ Sept. 14 At IAIS

WASHINGTON — The Institute for American Indian Studies will host Lauren “Lupo” Connell, an herbalist and flower essence practitioner, for a workshop on the uses of flower essences.

The workshop will be offered on Sunday, September 14, from 1 to 2:30 pm. Cost is $15 ($12 for IAIS members), plus a $3 materials fee. Connecticut educators may earn 0.1 CEU for the workshop.

Flower essences are liquid remedies that are made by infusing flowers in water and sunlight and preserved with brandy.  Flower essences can be a very beneficial part of the healing process because they work on the emotional aspect of healing.

Often, physical ailments and diseases are the result of deep-seated emotional issues. Modern day society often does not take the time to honor the healing process. Issues that have been left unresolved do not dissipate on their own; they are often stored deep in the mental and physical body.

Whereas drugs and herbs are used to treat physical and emotional illness, flower essences work on a deeper level helping to assist energetic changes in the body.

During “Flower Essences” on September 14, Ms Connell will take participants outside to choose flowers from the museum’s Healing Plants Garden. Participants will also receive literature and samples.

The Institute for American Indian Studies, at 38 Curtis Road, can be reached for reservations or additional information at 860-868-0518.
