Horse Guard Open House Set For Sunday

The Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard (2GHG) will host its annual Open House on Sunday from 11 am to 2 pm, at its Fairfield Hills facility.

From 11 am to 1 pm there will be games for young children and equine-related demonstrations for all.

Historical uniforms and tack equipment will be on display, and information on 2GHG history and traditions will be available. Food and ice cream vendors will be on site as well.

At 1 pm, 2GHG Troopers will demonstrate a Cavalry mounted drill and perform the Musical Ride. The 2GHG Drill Team will perform and there will be additional mounted demonstrations.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the dedication of the Fairfield Hills property, and also the 200th Anniversary of the signing of the 2GHG Charter.

The Open House is a unique opportunity for community members to learn about 2GHG and see the Horse Guard perform. A 100 percent volunteer, non-profit organization, 2GHG has been serving the citizenry of Connecticut since 1808. 2GHG Troopers participate in ceremonial events at the order of either the Governor or the Adjutant General. 2GHG participates in all Gubernatorial Inaugurals and some Presidential Inaugurals.

For more information, leave a message at 426-9046. Information is also available at thehorseguard.com.

The Troopers and mounts of the 2GHG remain, as always,  “Ready to Serve.”
