On The Pitch ... Youth Soccer Highlights
Boys
U10
Team 1 and Team 3 played to a 2-2 tie: Zachary Laros and Chris Rovelli each scored a goal for team BU10-01. John Bienkoski, Lucas LaDestro and Nicholas Hall all played an excellent defensive game. For the BU10-03, goals were scored by Grant Untiedt and Connery Mayer. William Roberts was strong in goal, tough defense was played by Theodore Silverman and Jacob Harper played a great offense game.
Storm 3, New Cannan 3: The Storm came from behind with three second half goals. Mike Meyers, after being taken down in front of the New Cannan goal, scored on a penalty kick to start the scoring run. Richard Ciamarra scored Newtowns second goal and with the game clock winding down to a little less than a minute, Shane Gattey drew Newtown even. Austin Engler and Forest Weatherby played well in the win. The defense of Jamie Cochrane, Luke Caplan and Robert Katrinak allowed Alex Hess to shut down New Cannan in the second half.Â

Newtown White Lightning 1, Greenwich 1: Will Swain scored the Newtown goal (assist from Jeremy Doski). Ryan King, Michael Cook and Michael Biancardi kept the offensive pressure on by controlling possession of the ball but couldnât find the back of the net. Kevin Droniak, Sawyer Conrad and Nathyn Horvath were solid on defense. Pete Manfredonia made several good saves.
U14
Cobras 3, Stamford 1: Pieter Martino scored two goals, one on a penalty kick after Noah Sock was fouled within the box. Francis Saraceni added the third goal which was set up on a nice cross from Nick Gerbo. Tyler Ruefenacht, Mergim Bajraliu and Stephen Conway played well in the midfield, and the defense was led by Sean Elliott, Alex Lockhart and Sam Langdon and Matt Rahtelli.
The Thez 5, Man U 0: Leading the offensive charge for The Thez was Miles Dobbrow with 3 goals. Danny Cummings and Matt Wood each had a goal. Anchoring a solid defense were Frankie Biancardi, Justin Germak and George Ferris, with Otto Kerler in net. Ryan Szalay played a solid midfield. For Man U, Anthony Vournazos was strong in goal, Sinclair Sore played well on defense and Kaustav Mitra led the offense.
Oskars 4, Strikerz 2: Ryan Pisani scored a goal and assisted on two others for the Oskars. Albert Dean notched two goals, Blake Jarvis scored one and Spencer Tolson anchored the Oskar defense. Adam Hufziger played a great game defensively and Dillon Palumbo didnât allow a goal in the second half. For the Strikerz, Zachary Weiland and Charlie Poarch each netted a goal. Nicholas Klein anchored the defense and midfielder Rui Michael Teixeira had a great game.
Beast of the East 3, Italian Stallions 2: Matt Rosa scored twice and Tyler Coleman added two goals. Ethan Perkus had two assists for the Beast and Ian Lew dominated the midfield. For the Italian Stallions, Taylor Rudder and Will Carr each scored and Evan Swain and Josh Tuffy played well at midfield.

U8
Lightning 2, Tomasinoâs 0: For Lightning, Sarah Tressler had both goals with assists from Sage Karp and Maddie Zipperstein. Jenna Gonski was strong on defense and Alexis Fortugno had two steals at midfield. For the Tomasinoâs, Lauren Carrino played great defense, Grace Sholtes had a solid all-around game, Olivia Hage and Rachel Tomasino were strong on offense and Brianna Lovely played well in goal.
Thundering Jaguars 2, The Desserts 2: Goals from Julia Haskins and Alexis Mason (assist by Greta Staubly) led the Thundering Jaguars. Tess Hubbard and Erin Walsh were solid on offense. Natalie âCakeâ Kelchner scored and assisted a late goal by Dylan âBrownieâ Zahansky for the Desserts to tie the game. Malia âFrostingâ Gioffre and Tessa âCandy Caneâ Perkus anchored the defense and Ally âSprinklesâ Tolson played a great game in goal.
Fighting Irish 6, Monkees 2: For the Fighting Irish, Alison Kelleher, Jenna Lavelle, Grace Corcoran, Catharina Hyeon and Priya Deraney (2) all scored. For the Monkees, Emma Boland and Sophia Andrew scored a goal apiece. Brokke Antous was strong in the goal.
U10
Lightning Bolts 1, Mustangs 1: For the Lightning Bolts, defense prevailed with Eleanor Frost in goal and Kiera Veillette leading the way at right wing. Christina Moore scored the teamâs only goal. The Mustangs were led by goalie Colleen McCarthy â goalie, the defensive efforts of Megan Goyda and Jillian Pierepti (who also scored the lone goal) and Erin Tressler led the offense.
Killer Tigers 5, Funkey Monkeys 4: The Killer Tigers dominated the first half behind the powerful kicks of Grace Frost, Emily Neave, and Jillian Demartino to take a commanding 3-1 lead into the intermission. The lone first half goal for the Monkeys was scored by Molly Begg. The Monkeys rallied to tie the score behind the scoring of Lauren Cirone and Alexandra Manoni. After the Killer Tigers retook the lead 4-3, Grace Svenson scored a goal for the Funky Monkeys to once again tie the score but the Killer Tigers netted the winner with 10 seconds to play.
Purple Penguins 4, Crushers 1: For the Purple Penguins, Anna Biondi and Jessica Maturo each scored two goals. Danielle Mola and Katie Elkins both played well in goal. For the Crushers, Julia Doyle scored, Chloe Blakeman played hard in midfield and Madison Pirone played a solid forward position.
Thunder 4, Greenwich 1: Nevan Gattey led a smothering defense. Makenna Cerney and Caitlyn Linden both scored twice. The front line of Cerney, Caitlyn Linden and Lauren Beier kept on the offensive pressure. Goalie Lucy Helgren made key saves. The team also participated in the SCOR (Soccer Club of Ridgefield) Labor Day Tournament and went 1-2-1 in the tournament with a win against Ridgefield, a tie against Darien and losses to Danbury and Wilton.
U12
Lightning 4, Monroe 0: Kailee Dunnigan scored in the opening moments of the game. Sarah Lynch had two goals and Amy Martinelli put one in on a penalty kick. Emily Riley and Cassie Fischer helped keep up the offensive pressure and Siena Cicarelli controlled the midfield. Kate Fallon, Dale Shearin and Kelsey Muniz all performed well in goal.
U14
Earthquakes 6, Cyclones 4: Hannah Booth scored 3 goals and Sydney Allen, Meagan Foy and Emily Jerris all added goals to give the Earthquakes the edge. Makenzie Casey, Ashley Marks and Kelly OâConnell who all played great all-around games for the Earthquakes. Emily Albrecht had three goals and Lauren Meyer added a goal for the Cyclones. Jane Sclafani made great saves in goal in the first half and Maren Brady came up with big saves in the second. Eliza Eggleston contributed excellent tackling and ball control.
Team 3 defeated Twisters 4-3: For the Twisters, Kerry Scallon had two goals and Samantha Luzietti scored. Strong defense was played by Anita Luxkaranayagam and Tess Stofko. For Team 3, goals were scored by Meghan Grimes and Jaime Duncan. Emily Grimes scored two goals, including the game winner. Sierra Mather and Brianna Baranoski played well.
