St Rose To Commission Catechists
St Rose To Commission Catechists
St Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church will join Catholic parishes across the country in celebrating Catechetical Sunday during the weekend of September 20â21 with a commissioning of catechists. The annual event spotlights the importance of the formal teaching ministry in the Catholic Church. The theme of this yearâs event is âThe Word of God in the Life and Mission of the Church.â
Currently, more than half a million catechists serve in 19,000 Catholic parishes, missions, and schools across the country. They are instrumental in introducing more than four million children and youth to the faith and traditions of the Church.
At St Rose over 220 catechists serve more than 2,000 children in religious education and St Rose School. In addition, these catechists provide opportunities for study, reflection, and faith enrichment to a large number of adult Catholics.
Religious education at St Rose starts in pre-K. There are programs from cradle up to the grave. Attendance during Grade 1 is a prerequisite for First Communion in Grade 2.
St Rose Church will observe Catechetical Sunday with a rite of commissioning for its 220 catechists. As part of these celebrations, parents and guardians will be blessed for the important role they play in handing on the faith to the next generation.
Pam Arsenault, the director of Parish Education at St Rose, noted that Catechetical Sunday highlights a central ministry within the Catholic Church.
âThe work of these catechists â most of whom volunteer their time â is vital to the life of the Church. This celebration gives us a chance to recognize the importance of those who share faith with so many in our parish,â said Ms Arsenault.
