Strikers Win Enfield Tourney

The Newtown Strikers won the Boys’ U-11 Division of the Kevin Barmak Memorial Soccer Tournament in Enfield over the Labor Day weekend with four straight wins against Enfield (4-1), Colchester (6-1), Marlborough (3-2) and WAM United (3-2). The Strikers received great offensive efforts from Jonathan Guilherme, Scott Martin, Josh Houle and Thomas Gavel. The defense was powered by Michael O’Keefe, James Carney and Tyler Dullinger. Paul O’Leary and Matt Stewart shared time in goal. The Strikers then beat Bethel 6-2 as the season continued this week. Bryce Mather led the team with strong play at both ends of the field. The offensive effort was led by Jonathan Guilherme and Cole Rogalin, both of whom had two goals apiece. Alex Gerbo and John Carlson kept the pressure on offensively and O’Keefe again powered the Strikers’ defense.
