The Best Of Newtown
The Best Of Newtown
To the Editor:
Newtown is fortunate to have two men who care deeply about the town as candidates for the state General Assembly. Because I believe that Chris Lyddy will strongly advocate for Newtownâs needs particularly on the issues of regional drug abuse, property tax reform, and affordable housing, I enthusiastically endorse his candidacy.
Ten years ago Chris was one of my students. While only a sophomore, Chris reactivated a dormant SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) Chapter. Under his leadership, SADD became one of the most active and vibrant clubs at the high school. His commitment to confronting the epidemic of teenage drug abuse, strong leadership skills, integrity, and ability to work with a wide variety of people impressed me a decade ago.
After graduating from college and earning his masterâs degree in social work, Chris could have chosen to live and work anywhere. He come back to Newtown because his heart stayed here. Today he is a board member of the Parent Connection. Last fall Chris was elected to the Legislative Council. As one of his colleagues on the council, I admire his grasp of difficult issues and willingness to reach across party lines.
Chris Lyddy represents to best of Newtown. His character, work ethic, intelligence, and service to the community qualify him to represent us in Hartford.
Sincerely,
Jan Lee Brookes
