Elections Have Consequences XIV
To The Editor:
If there is one person who should never receive the Nobel Peace Prize it is Trump. His promises to end the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza are going nowhere as he continues to praise dictators and harass our allies. He has threatened the sovereignty of Canada, Greenland and Panama. India’s Prime Minister Modi refused to give credit to Trump for stopping a recent conflict with Pakistan, so he was hit with a 50% tariff. After that Modi went to China to hang out with Xi and Putin — not a good situation for our long-term security.
It is his actions here at home, however, that really disqualify him. Not once has he tried to restore unity in this country. He oozes contempt and disdain for anyone who refuses to kiss his ample posterior. He refers to them as “scum” and the “enemy within.” His vindictive and hate-filled language, which we have listened to for more than ten years, is often repeated by his supporters — especially his white, Christian nationalist friends promoting Project 2025.
Trump has been restructuring and funding the military and other law enforcement agencies to ensure loyalty to himself — not the constitution — so that he can use them against the American people. After an executive order to rename the Dept of Defense to the Dept of War, he talked of going to war against the City of Chicago. Trump is itching to see fighting break out between civilians and the military. He wants to see bloodshed in the streets. He wants to see a repeat of Jan 6 playing out across the country, especially in blue cities and states. No other president in our lifetime would have thought that a WWE wrestling match at the White House to celebrate our 250th anniversary of Independence would be a good idea — but this is who Trump is, a man who thrives on violence. Welcome to the “Not So” United States of America.
Fortunately, the Norwegian Nobel Prize Committee is out of Trump’s reach so he can’t assume authority over it like he did with the Kennedy Center — unless of course he invades Norway first.
