Nutmeg Book Discussion: Warriors by Joseph Bruchac will be the next book discussed in our Nutmeg series on Wednesday, September 27, beginning at 4 pm.

Jake has left the reservation for Weltimore Academy and entered a different world. Everyone there loves lacrosse, but no one understands it the way Jake does, as an Iroquois. And no one understands Jake either.

Readers in grades 4-6 are welcome to join the hour-long discussion.

*Author Visit – Suzanne Collins: Fans of the Gregor the Overlander series should mark their calendars now!

Author Suzanne Collins will be at C.H. Booth Library on Sunday, October 21, from 3 to 4:30 pm. Ms Collins will be talking about the first four books in her popular series, answer questions, and maybe even hint at what might take place in the next installment of the series.

An author signing session will follow. Books will be available for purchase on the day of the program.

*Book discussions: Upcoming programs include September 21, a discussion of Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky starting at 7:30 pm; October 3, Friday Night Lights by H.G. Bissinger, 1 pm; October 16, Winter of Our Discontent by John Steinbeck, 1 pm; and October 19, Death Comes for the Archbishop by Willa Cather, 7:30 pm.

Newcomers are always welcome.

*Tertulia Literaria: A new club for those who enjoy reading and speaking in Spanish, Tertulia Literaria will begin on Thursday, September 21. The club is not a class. There is no teacher, and registration is not needed to participate. Ms Ross stresses that having an academic degree is not, in any way, necessary. Only a strong interest and a comfortable proficiency in reading and speaking Spanish are needed

Newtown resident Laura Humphries Ross is the club’s founder. Programs will take place in the library’s board room once each month. Titles selected for the first year include a cross section of 11 contemporary authors (1950s-present) from Spain, Mexico, South America, and Cuba. Members are responsible for obtaining their own books (in Spanish), which are readily available online and at some of the larger bookstores and libraries.

Delirio by Columbian author Laura Restrepo, a writer, instructor of literature, journalist, activist and editor, will be discussed at the September 21 meeting. Delirio was awarded the prestigious Premio Internacional Alfaguara de Novela in 2004.

The prize-winning La nieve del almirante by Alvaro Mutis, of Columbia and Mexico, will be discussed on October 19.

*Wellness Series: The library is hosting a six-part series, “Enhancing Wellness,” on Tuesdays until October 17. Learn easy ways to take care of yourself and your family, reduce stress, and promote inner peace.

Programs run from 7 to 9 pm, and the next one will be on yoga. The remaining schedule is as follows: September 26, “Centering and Creativity”; October 3, “Relieving Stress with a Spa Experience at Home”; October 10, “Botanical Medicine”; and October 17, “Nutrition.”

*How To Sell Your Home: Kmar Educational Services will present a workshop on how to get top dollar for your house and sell it quickly in a competitive market on Monday, September 25, from 6:30 until 7:45 pm.
