Newtown Teacher Completes Program At Albertus Magnus College
Karen Blasko, a teacher at Head Oâ Meadow School, has completed a 13-month advanced alternative preparation program at Albertus Magnus College that leads to certification as a reading specialist. The Connecticut Department of Higher Education sponsors this accelerated route to certification and Albertus Magnus College administers it.
Participants spent their first and last month on the collegeâs main campus in New Haven studying theory and assessment; they also worked directly with area schoolchildren in reading tutorials. During the winter, with the assistance of advisors from Albertus, they completed a number of clinical activities in their own school districts, returning to the Albertus campus one Saturday a month for further instruction.
A second group of teachers began the program this summer and, following the same schedule, will complete the program in the summer of 2007.
