Fairfield County student shooters made a strong showing in two statewide competitions. At the recent Connecticut Skeet Championship in Chaplin, Mat Apgar, a junior from Fairfield, took home the junior title for the 12 gauge event with a score of 91 out of 100 targets while Michael Terry, a sophomore from Weston, topped the sub-juniors. Nick Fatse of Newtown and Stephen Michael Apgar of Middlebury also performed well in sub-juniors. At the Scholastic Clay Target Program, sponsored by the Newtown-based National Shooting Sports Foundation, The Grateful Lead came in second among the SCTP teams despite the fact it was their first sporting clays outing. The Grateful Lead features CJ Ehrentraut of Beacon Falls, Chris Dennis of Newtown and Kyle Mathews of Monroe. The seven boys will finish the season with a trap competition next weekend and one sporting clays shoot in each of the next three months. Matt Apgar, Nick Fatse, Stephen Michael Apgar and Michael Terry of The Grateful Lead performed well at the Connecticut State Skeet Championships in Chaplin on September 3.
