Sophie J. (Ulatowski) Wadeka, 91, of Stratford, beloved wife of the late Edward Wadeka, died on September 12 in Milford. Mrs Wadeka was born on May 4, 1915, in Bridgeport, a daughter of Alex and Domicala (Zakzrewski) Ulatowski. She had been a lifetime Stratford resident.

Survivors include her sister, Irene Eckert of Newtown; daughter-in-law, Patricia Wadeka of Milford, with whom she resided during her long illness; her grandchildren, Richard and Anna Wadeka of West Haven and Michele and Donald Mendillo of Milford; great-grandchildren, Richard and Cassie Wadeka, and Ashley, Amanda, Joseph, and Alexa Mendillo; two nephews, Leslie Eckert and Carl Walters; one niece, Elaine Maugeri; two other grandchildren; and five great-grand children.

She is also survived by a dear friend, Walter Chop of Stratford, and her many friends at the Baldwin Center and Saint James Church.

Mrs Wadeka was predeceased by her two sons, Richard Wadeka and Kenneth Wadeka, both of Milford; her brother, Roy Ulatowski; two sisters, Mary Ulatowski and Jean Walters; and two nephews, Vincent Ulatowski and Michael Eckert.

She was a Central High School graduate and retired after 24 years from Connecticut National Bank, as vice president of the Shakespeare office. She was a communicant of St James, and an active member of the Baldwin Center, having served as a member of the commission on aging, a member on the committee for planning Baldwin’s annual picnics, and committee for flu shots. She also modeled for AARP’s magazine.

The family would like to thank the Connecticut Hospice doctors, nurses, staff, and volunteers, especially Patty McGrath, for their kindness and wonderful care, and the Hospice Home Care of Shelton for their care in making her last days comfortable.

Friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Friday, September 15, at 9:30 am, at William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main Street in Stratford, and at 10:30 am in Saint James Church, 2110 Main Street in Stratford, for a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery.

Calling hours were scheduled for Thursday, September 14, from 4 to 8 pm, at the William R. McDonald Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford CT 06405.
