An Afternoon Of Wine And History

SHELTON — The Philip Jamison Jones Winery will co-present “An Afternoon of Wine and History” with Shelton Historical Society on Sunday, September 19, from 1 to 4 pm.

Festivities will benefit the historical society’s efforts to restore the Brownson House, their house museum at the Shelton History complex. Foot stomping music will be provided by The Jackson Pike Skifflers, renowned musicians of old-time tunes. Guests can try samples of newly released wine vintages produced by Jamie Jones, along with tastes of authentic farm foods.

There will also be activities and beverages for children to enjoy, so the whole family can particiate. On display will be some farm antique and photos, as well as plans for the society’s upcoming restoration and reinterpretation of the Brownson House, built in 1820.

As well as the Jones barn, visitors are invited to the Shelton History Center at 70 Ripton Road, just three miles away. Guests will be treated to anniversary cake to celebrate the 100th wedding anniversary of Harry and Gertrude Brownson, the former owners of the 1820s house.

There will be a photography exhibit, “Valley Sites Unseen,” held in conjunction with Osborne Homestead Museum in Derby. Open at the Shelton History complex will be the 1872 one-room schoolhouse and 1850s barn, which houses the award winning exhibit on three centuries of life in Shelton.

Admission to everything is $10 per adult; children are free. For directions to “An Afternoon of Wine and History” visit www.SheltonHistoricalSociety.org or www.JonesFamilyFarms.com. Shelton Historical Society can be reached by calling 203-925-1803.
