Easy Fitness Test Spots Problem Areas For Seniors

Seniors need to know the score. Not just their blood pressure number. Not only cholesterol levels.

Seniors planning to enjoy healthier, active golden years also need to know their SFT level. Now the Newtown Senior Center, in conjunction with Carlson Therapy Network, an affiliate of Church Hill Physical Therapy & Sports Rehabilitation on Church Hill Road, is offering a valuable service that will tell seniors what they need to know.

The SFT — or Senior Fitness Test — is designed to discover potential problems in vital areas of daily activity, such as balance, walking, lifting and other common movements. The resulting score in each area can be used to identify and discuss treatments with the senior’s physician and others for any current or impending difficulties in the areas tested. For example, strength training will improve lifting and carrying ability.

Fun and easy to take, the SFT will be supervised by a licensed physical therapist from Carlson Therapy Network of Ridgefield and is scheduled for Wednesday, November 10, at 1 to 3 pm or 3 to 5 pm at the Newtown Senior Center, 14 Riverside Road in Sandy Hook.

The test is free, will take about 90 minutes to complete, and requires preregistration at the Senior Center.

Carlson Therapy Network, established in 1983 in Ridgefield, provides a full complement of physical therapy services at its 23 affiliate clinics in three states.

For more details, directions, or registration information, contact the Newtown Senior Center at 270-4315 during business hours or email the center at newtown.sr.ctr@sbc.global.net or call Carlson Therapy Network at 203-431-8471.
