Ambulance Corps Planning Clothing Drive, EMT Training

It’s time to clean out those closets! The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corp is holding its third annual Clothing Drive on Saturday, September 25.

The corps plans to have a truck parked in the headquarters lot from 8 am to 4 pm that day, so donors can just drive in and drop off items. The corps headquarters is located at 77 North Main Street, just north of the flagpole.

Items accepted include: clothing, bedding, linens and small household items in working order. No toiletries or perishables please. Donations will go to the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center. Tax receipts will be available.

In other news, the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps is looking for people interested in obtaining their EMT-Basic certification. A class will begin October 18 at Edmond Town Hall and run approximately three months.

Classes will be held Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6 to 10 pm, and some Saturdays. This is a State of Connecticut approved training course which includes classroom lectures, practical training, CPR certification, Emergency Room observation, patient assessment skills, treatment of medical conditions and injury related events, lifting and moving techniques, medical documentation and Emergency Medical Services operations.

Upon completion of the course material and classroom sessions, students will take a State of Connecticut written and practical test. The cost is $450.

Students must be 16 years of age before completion of the course. For more information or to register visit the website www.newtownambulancect.org. Any questions about either activity can be directed to 203-270-4380.
