Garner Assault
At approximately 10:14 am on September 7, State Police responded to the Garner Correctional facility in Newtown following a report of an assault. Following an investigation, it was determined that inmate Eric Teele, 20, assaulted a corrections officer while being secured in a cell. Teele was arrested on a charge of assaulting a public safety officer, as well as a violation for failure to submit to fingerprinting, and held on a $50,000 bond pending arraignment the following day in Danbury Superior Court.
Following Too Close
State Police responded to the area of Exit 9 on eastbound Interstate 84 at about 7:46 am on September 14 following a reported minor motor vehicle collision. Following an investigation it was determined that Teresa Fiore, 47, of Grassy Hill Road, Woodbury, was operating a 2008 Toyota RAV 4 SUV behind a 1999 Nissan Sentra, when its operator, Ricardo Liberto, 23 slowed in the far left lane for traffic. Fiore was unable to stop and made minor contact with the rear of the Nissan. She was subsequently cited for following too close and failure to carry a valid insurance card.
Rear End Crash
On September 13 at about 6:47 am, Maria Wainman, 35, of Derby was traveling westbound on Interstate 84 in the area of Exit 11 when she slowed the commercial vehicle she was operating for traffic in the left lane. At that time, Michele Vaccarelli, 27, of DiSanto Drive in Wolcott failed to slow her 2009 Honda Accord in time and struck the rear of the commercial vehicle causing sufficient damage that the vehicle had to be towed from the scene. No injuries were reported, and no enforcement was noted on the report.
Violation Of Order
At about 11 pm on September 14, Newtown Police arrested Richard Marotto, 38, of Button Ball drive on the charge of violating a protective order. He was held on a $25,000 bond pending arraignment the following morning at Danbury Superior Court.
Rollover Collision
Police, fire and ambulance personnel were called to the area of Berkshire Road and Zoar Road following a report of a motor vehicle rollover collision at about 3:28 am on September 14. Following an investigation police reported that Zachary S. Fitzgerald, 20, of Berkshire Road was operating a 1988 Toyota station wagon westbound in the area when he failed to negotiate a curve, crossed into the eastbound lane hitting eastbound curbing and rolling over twice before the vehicle came to rest on its roof. The operator was transported to Danbury Hospital by local ambulance volunteers for treatment of undisclosed injuries. Fitzgerald was subsequently given a written warning for making an unrestricted turn.
Window Removed
Police are seeking the publicâs help following a break-in at a home on Orchard Hill Road sometime between 7:30 am and 7:15 pm September 10. According to reports, some person or persons removed a front window, accessed the dwelling, and removed a number of items from the home.
