Siding Damaged

On September 11 at approximately 11:54 pm, police report an object was reportedly tossed into the siding of a residence on Greenbriar Lane, causing minor damage. Anyone who may have noticed suspicious activity in the area at that time is asked to contact Newtown Officer Robert Haas at 203-426-5841.

Evading Responsibility

Police on September 10 charged a New Britain man with evading and unsafe backing, after he reportedly backed a commercial vehicle into the front end of another vehicle parked in the area of 3 Glen Road. According to the report, at around 3:35 pm, Miguel Sanchez, 31, was operating a 1996 International box truck owned by Jenesis Computers of Plainville, when he backed into a 2009 Jeep Wrangler owned by Mark Tambascio of Sandy Hook, damaging the front hood, bumper, and tire. Police said Sanchez then fled the scene, only to return later after being identified by police. He was arrested on the charges and released for a court appearance after posting a $100 bond.

Failure To Yield

At about 8:08 am on September 8, Police report that Mary Jane Johnson, 61, of Main Street North in Woodbury, was attempting to turn her 2008 Subaru Legacy from northbound South Main street into Country Club Road, when she was struck by a 1994 Chevrolet S-10 pickup operated by Kenneth Canfield, 36, of Waterview Drive, Sandy Hook. Police say that Canfield stated he attempted to avoid the collision but was unsuccessful. The pickup incurred damage to the front bumper, while the Subaru sustained damage to the right rear quarter panel and wheel. No injuries were reported, and police issued Johnson a written warning for failure to yield to oncoming traffic.

Differing Accounts

Police took no action following a traffic incident at about 3:09 pm on September 7, when two operators offered differing accounts after a minor collision at Trades Lane and Wasserman Way. According to the report, Mark Felton, 55, of Partridge Lane was operating a 2008 Honda Pilot SUV, and was the first of two vehicles stopped at the traffic signal. A 2006 Chevrolet wagon operated by Carolyn Haynes, 65, of Hanover Road pulled up in the second position. Mr Felton told police the front of the Chevy contacted his rear bumper, while police say Haynes reported the Honda backed into her stopped vehicle causing minor scratches to her front bumper. The responding officer only received statements from both parties, and filed a report.

Front End Damage

The operator of a commercial vehicle was cited September 8 following a minor traffic collision at the intersection of Botsford Hill and Swamp Roads. Police say that Mark Rebb, 52, of Waterbury was attempting to turn a 1997 Chevrolet van owned by JMG Distribution from Swamp Road westbound onto Botsford Hill Road. According to the investigation, Rebb entered the oncoming traffic lane, striking the front end of 2006 Chevrolet pickup being operated by Roy Schulze, 71, of Heritage Village, Southbury. Police observed that both vehicles sustained minor front end damage, but no injuries were reported, and police issued Rebb a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at an intersection.

Under Suspension

Police say they conducted a routine traffic stop in the area of 6 Queen Street at approximately 5:04 pm September 12, and learned the operator, Frances Galante, 48, of Glover Avenue was operating with a suspended license, and was operating a vehicle with an expired registration. Galante was arrested on the offenses and issued a written promise to appear in court to answer to the charges of failure to renew a registration, and operating under suspension.

Cigarettes Stolen

Local Police are seeking anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area of the Church Hill Road Citgo gas station around 12:56 am on September 12. At that time police report some person or persons entered the business and took an undetermined number of cartons of cigarettes. Contact Officer Steven Borges at 203-426-5841 with any information.

Main Street Collision

Police say a young operator reportedly incurred a back injury following a September 7 collision at about 5:54 pm on Main Street in the area of the flagpole. According to the report, an unidentified approaching southbound motorist on Main Street stopped by the flagpole to allow Thomas Diluoffo, 16, who was operating a 2007 Honda station wagon westbound on Church Hill Road, to cross onto West Street. The witness, as well as a second motorist in noncontact vehicles told police a third vehicle traveling south on Main Street pulled around their stopped vehicles and contacted the Honda as it was crossing the intersection, causing substantial damage to the Honda’s passenger side. Diluoffo complained of back pain and told police he would seek medical attention on his own. Police then issued Heather Schroder, 27, of Norwalk, who was operating a 2008 Saab sedan, a written warning for passing on the right. The Honda was towed from the scene.

Motor Vehicle Stop

At about 9:54 pm on September 9, police reported pulling over Elizabeth Uzco, 32, of Driftwood Road in Danbury in a routine traffic stop near 52 Church Hill Road. After investigating a broken tail lamp, police discovered the operator was under suspension, and Uzco was arrested and issued a misdemeanor summons for the offense. She was also cited for the equipment violation and subsequently released on a $100 cash bond pending a September 23 court appearance.

Suspended License

At about 1:19 am on September 10, police say an officer witnessed David Jefferson, 18, of Huntingtown Street, Bridgeport, operating an unidentified motor vehicle and crossing the center line on South Main Street. After pulling the vehicle over, it was learned that Jefferson was operating under suspension, and he was arrested on the offense. After processing, he was released on a written promise to appear in court on the charge on September 28.

Illegal Plate Cover

Police took note of a vehicle traveling on Mount Pleasant Road at about 7:02 am on September 9, because it appeared to have an illegal marker plate cover. After stopping the unidentified vehicle to investigate, it was determined that operator Scott A. Stoeckle, Jr of Elsie Street, Torrington, was under license suspension. Stoeckle was arrested and charged with the offense as well as the equipment violation. He was subsequently released on a $500 bond pending a September 29 court appearance.

Garner Assault

At approximately 10:14 am on September 7, State Police responded to the Garner Correctional facility in Newtown following a report of an assault. Following an investigation, it was determined that inmate Eric Teele, 20, assaulted a corrections officer while being secured in a cell. Teele was arrested on a charge of assaulting a public safety officer, as well as a violation for failure to submit to fingerprinting, and held on a $50,000 bond pending arraignment the following day in Danbury Superior Court.

Following Too Close

State Police responded to the area of Exit 9 on eastbound Interstate 84 at about 7:46 am on September 14 following a reported minor motor vehicle collision. Following an investigation it was determined that Teresa Fiore, 47, of Grassy Hill Road, Woodbury, was operating a 2008 Toyota RAV 4 SUV behind a 1999 Nissan Sentra, when its operator, Ricardo Liberto, 23 slowed in the far left lane for traffic. Fiore was unable to stop and made minor contact with the rear of the Nissan. She was subsequently cited for following too close and failure to carry a valid insurance card.

Rear End Crash

On September 13 at about 6:47 am, Maria Wainman, 35, of Derby was traveling westbound on Interstate 84 in the area of Exit 11 when she slowed the commercial vehicle she was operating for traffic in the left lane. At that time, Michele Vaccarelli, 27, of DiSanto Drive in Wolcott failed to slow her 2009 Honda Accord in time and struck the rear of the commercial vehicle causing sufficient damage that the vehicle had to be towed from the scene. No injuries were reported, and no enforcement was noted on the report.

Violation Of Order

At about 11 pm on September 14, Newtown Police arrested Richard Marotto, 38, of Button Ball drive on the charge of violating a protective order. He was held on a $25,000 bond pending arraignment the following morning at Danbury Superior Court.

Rollover Collision

Police, fire and ambulance personnel were called to the area of Berkshire Road and Zoar Road following a report of a motor vehicle rollover collision at about 3:28 am on September 14. Following an investigation police reported that Zachary S. Fitzgerald, 20, of Berkshire Road was operating a 1988 Toyota station wagon westbound in the area when he failed to negotiate a curve, crossed into the eastbound lane hitting eastbound curbing and rolling over twice before the vehicle came to rest on its roof. The operator was transported to Danbury Hospital by local ambulance volunteers for treatment of undisclosed injuries. Fitzgerald was subsequently given a written warning for making an unrestricted turn.

Window Removed

Police are seeking the public’s help following a break-in at a home on Orchard Hill Road sometime between 7:30 am and 7:15 pm September 10. According to reports, some person or persons removed a front window, accessed the dwelling, and removed a number of items from the home. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Detective Jason Frank at 203-426-5841.
