State Gets $94 Million For Internet Access

HARTFORD (AP) — Connecticut is receiving $94 million in federal stimulus funding to extend high-speed, broadband Internet service to more of the state’s schools, libraries, and public safety complexes.

The funding is part of a $7 billion nationwide investment in expanding broadband access. Besides improving education and public safety, the project aims to boost jobs for workers who will dig trenches, lay the fiber optic cable and install state-of-the-art network equipment.

Broadband will be extended to 83 schools, 29 libraries, and two community colleges in Danielson and Winsted.
