Who is in your family? My husband, my two sons, my mom, and also my parents-in-law.
How did you meet your husband? I met him when I was still in high school, and still in Albania. We’ve been together 18 years now.
Do you have any pets? We have a German Shepherd and a Swiss Shepherd.
Do you have any nicknames? Nea.
What do you do for work? I make people happy. (Laughs) My husband and I co-own and work at Aquila’s Nest Vineyards. We love what we do. We create so many different kinds of experiences and happy moments for people. It’s going to be our five year anniversary at the end of October and we’re going to do something special for that.
How long have you lived in Newtown? We built our house in the vineyard three years ago.
Are you a member of any clubs, organizations and/or communities of faith? We are part of the Greater Danbury Chamber and also Fairfield Chamber of Commerce. I volunteer with the Women’s Business Council of the Danbury Chamber. I’m also part of the Small Business Development Center Advisory Board and the Fairfield University School of Engineering Advisory Board, and the Harvard Business Review Journal Advisory Board.
Favorite actor? Ralph Fiennes
What was the most recent movie you saw in the theater? Superman.
Do you have a favorite author? Balzac, who wrote Human Comedy, a series of books.
Who or what has been the greatest influence in your life? My parents. They are very accomplished individuals and they achieved a lot in life with very little opportunities being granted to them. They persevered and that’s kind of our story too, but in a different country.
Who would you like to be stuck in an elevator with? Dua Lipa. I love her music, first of all. She’s also from Albania, the country I’m from, and she does a lot for her country worldwide.
Do you have any surprising or unusual talents? I am a photographer and I’m also a really good dancer.
What is your favorite thing to watch? I love the Harry Potter movies. I can watch them over and over. When the first Harry Potter book came out in Albania, a little later than here because it needed to be translated, I was 11 and the characters in the book were also 11. A year later the second book came out and they were 12, and I was 12. The last book, I read it when I was 18. It’s been part of my childhood and teenage years, and I can watch those movies again and again.
If you could spend the day with one person, living or deceased, who would you choose and why? My father isn’t alive any more, so it would be nice to have one more day with him. He passed away the year that we bought the vineyard. It was his dream that we would create something beautiful here and I think we surpassed his expectations.
Do you have a personal credo? We have a quote in the winery that we had in the back of our minds when we were building the vineyard because it was an incredibly hard journey to get here: Create a vision so clear that all your fears become irrelevant.
