Catholic Women

In Public Life

FAIRFIELD — Lauralton Hall religion teacher Elizabeth Burns has been invited to take part in Fairfield University’s eighth annual Anne Drummey O’Callaghan Lecture to focus on Catholic women in public life. Ms Burns will be offering a response to a lecture entitled “Icons and Integrity: Catholic Women in the Church and in the Public Square” given by Nancy Dallavalle, PhD, associate professor and chair of the Department of Religious Studies at Fairfield University.

Elizabeth Burns graduated from Fairfield University in 2005 with a major in religious studies, and received a master’s degree in theology from the University of Notre Dame.

“I’m honored to be able to respond to Nancy Dallavalle, who had a great impact on me when I was her student. It’s also an honor to be able to participate in the O’Callaghan lecture which was established during my freshman year at Fairfield.

“Dr Dallavalle’s topic is of particular interest to me because I’m teaching a ‘Women and Christianity’ course,” Ms Burns continued. “One of the aims of this course is to introduce the students to women from the Church’s history whose stories of faith can serve as models for students’ own lives. It will be great to hear what she has to day about women today.”

The lecture will be on Wednesday, October 1, at 7:30 pm, at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at Fairfield University. The event is sponsored by the O’Callaghan Family, the Department of Religious Studies and the Center for Catholic Studies at Fairfield. There is no charge to attend.

For further information on the lecture, call 203-254-4000, extension 3127.
