In Public Life
FAIRFIELD â Lauralton Hall religion teacher Elizabeth Burns has been invited to take part in Fairfield Universityâs eighth annual Anne Drummey OâCallaghan Lecture to focus on Catholic women in public life. Ms Burns will be offering a response to a lecture entitled âIcons and Integrity: Catholic Women in the Church and in the Public Squareâ given by Nancy Dallavalle, PhD, associate professor and chair of the Department of Religious Studies at Fairfield University.
Elizabeth Burns graduated from Fairfield University in 2005 with a major in religious studies, and received a masterâs degree in theology from the University of Notre Dame.
âIâm honored to be able to respond to Nancy Dallavalle, who had a great impact on me when I was her student. Itâs also an honor to be able to participate in the OâCallaghan lecture which was established during my freshman year at Fairfield.
âDr Dallavalleâs topic is of particular interest to me because Iâm teaching a âWomen and Christianityâ course,â Ms Burns continued. âOne of the aims of this course is to introduce the students to women from the Churchâs history whose stories of faith can serve as models for studentsâ own lives. It will be great to hear what she has to day about women today.â
The lecture will be on Wednesday, October 1, at 7:30 pm, at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at Fairfield University. The event is sponsored by the OâCallaghan Family, the Department of Religious Studies and the Center for Catholic Studies at Fairfield. There is no charge to attend.
