Day Trips Available Through

Local Senior Center

New Fairfield Senior Center is offering a number of trips to greater Danbury residents this season. Among the offerings is a two-night stay in Washington, D.C. and a day trip to Mohonk Mountain House. A 15-day Royal Caribbean transatlantic cruise is also being planned for next winter. Details follow.

Area adults are invited to enjoy a visit to the nation’s capitol, leaving Friday, October 3, and returning Sunday, October 5. Transportation will be via deluxe motor coach, accommodations are at the Radisson Hotel in Crystal City, and highlights will include a guided tour of the city to see many of the famous memorials, a visit to the Smithsonian, and even a visit to the Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, which will celebrate its first anniversary in October.

Cost is $397 per person twin, which covers transportation, two breakfasts and two dinners, and all sightseeing and admissions.

The day trip to Mohonk Mountain House will leave New Fairfield at 9:15 am Friday, October 17, heading to New Paltz, N.Y., and the Victorian 265 room castle built in 1869 by the Smiley brothers. There will be time to explore the enchanting Hudson Valley hotel tucked away at the top of the Shawangunk Ridge Mountains, tour the award-winning Show Gardens, lose yourself in the Victorian Maze and/or stroll along part of the 85 miles of hiking trails.

Also included will be a behind the scenes kitchen tour and a luncheon banquet featuring modern American cuisine emphasizing wholesome foods prepared with seasonal, local ingredients that are the hallmark of dining at Mohonk.

Cost is $80 per person, and the group is expected to return around 5 pm.

A Royal Caribbean transatlantic cruise is planned for November 22 to December 6, 2009. Prices start at $1,749 per person before tax and port charges, and covers motorcoach to JFK Airport, airfare to England, 13 nights on Royal Caribbean’s newest and largest ship in Europe, and airfare back to Florida, and then JFK.

Optional tours to the Beaches of Normandy and an overnight stay in London are also available.
