Engagement Ring
Midafternoon on September 9, police received a report from store staff at the Big Y supermarket at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street that an engagement ring had been found at the store.
The ringâs owner may contact police to claim the lost ring. Sergeant Darlene Froehlich supervises the return of lost goods to owners. The police station is at 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841.
Theft From Vehicle
Police said they are investigating the theft of a gift card, which was stolen by someone late on the afternoon of September 10 from a vehicle that was parked in front of the CVS store at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street. The crime is sixth-degree larceny.
Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact officer David Donahoe at 426-5841.
Warrant Served
Police report that they served an arrest warrant against Andrew J. Mormando, 20, of 16 Philo Curtis Road at the Citgo gas station at 151 South Main Street on the night of September 11.
Police said they charged Mormando with second-degree failure to appear in court, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to illuminate a rear marker plate, and misuse of a marker plate. The drug and motor vehicle charges stem from an April 2007 incident.
Police held Mormando on $1,500 bail for a September 12 court appearance.
DUI Arrest
Motorist Christopher Senior, 25, of New Haven was driving a 2004 Nissan Maxima sedan westward on Berkshire Road (Route 34), near its intersection with High Rock Road, about 11:09 pm September 10, when the vehicle crossed the roadâs center line and entered the opposite lane, before leaving the eastbound lane and striking a road sign and a fence, and then traveling about 245 feet before coming to a stop, police report.
Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members evaluated Senior, who told police he was not injured. After investigating, police charged Senior with driving under the influence, making a restricted turn, and driving without a license.
Police held Senior on $1,000 bail for a September 11 court appearance.
Theft From Vehicle
Sometime between 11:15 and 11:39 pm September 12, someone entered an unlocked vehicle parked in a parking lot near 100 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center and stole a digital media player from the autoâs glove box, police said. The crime entails sixth-degree larceny and third-degree criminal mischief. Police are investigating and ask anyone with knowledge of who stole the device to contact Officer Steven Borges at 426-5841.
Durango Vs Deer
Motorist Michael Fagan, 48, of 113 High Rock Road was driving a 2000 Dodge Durango SUV westward on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Skidmore Lane, about 12:16 pm September 13, when a deer ran onto the road, colliding with the vehicle, police said. Fagan was not injured in the incident, police said.
Toddy Hill Road
About 10:25 am September 9, motorist Christopher Blake, 42, of Monroe, who was driving a 1997 Honda Accord sedan northward on Toddy Hill Road, near its intersection with Turnberry Lane, lost control of the Honda on a curve and crossed into the opposite lane, colliding head-on with southbound motorist John F. Goulet, Jr, 42, of Southington, who was driving a commercial 2001 Ford F-250 van, police report.
Ambulance volunteers transported Blake to Danbury Hospital to be treated for injuries, and they checked Goulet and a van passenger at the scene, police said. Sandy Hook firefighters went to the collision.
Police issued Blake an infraction ticket for failure to drive to the right.

Glover Avenue
State police report that during their investigation of an incident that occurred in Oxford, they went to 1 Glover Avenue in Newtown early on the morning of September 14 to pursue a lead in the case.
State police arrived at that address at about 4 am in seeking Brian J. Guidi, 26, of Shelton as part of their investigation into a motor vehicle being taken from an Oxford residence without the ownerâs permission.
Newtown police were called for assistance in the matter. The town police station is across Main Street from the home.
The missing vehicle was located at 1 Glover Avenue, but state police said they were refused entry into the home. Eventually, Guidi came outside and surrendered, after which state police charged him with second-degree criminal trover involving damage to a motor vehicle. State police said they held Guidi on $5,000 bail for a September 15 arraignment in Derby Superior Court.
After his arraignment Guidi was being held on $1,000 bail at the Bridgeport Correctional Center for an October 6 court appearance.
Also, state police said that during their investigation at 1 Glover Avenue, Timothy Shepard, 19, of that address, allegedly lied about his identity and interfered with police.
State police said they arrested Shepard on charges of interfering with police and violation of probation.

Interstate DUI
Following a three-vehicle accident on eastbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 10, about 12:17 am on September 13, state police charged motorist Alan Fletcher, 32, of 14 Lantern Drive with driving under the influence and with following too closely.
State police said that Fletcher, who was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck, caused an accident in rainy conditions, which also involved a coupe driven by a Naugatuck motorist and a minivan driven by a Seymour motorist.
State police released Fletcher on $500 bail for a September 22 court appearance.
Hawleyville Road
Motorist Thomas Liesegang, 20, of Brookfield, who was driving a 1996 Mercury Sable sedan northward near 52 Hawleyville Road about 8:55 pm September 8, became inattentive and drove off the northbound road shoulder, colliding with some brush, police said.
Liesegang was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn.
Construction Site
At about 9:30 am September 8, police received a report from a property owner that items had been stolen from a construction site on Hanover Road. The items were stolen sometime overnight on September 5/6, police said.
 The items taken include a washing machine, a sink, and some rain gutters. Police are investigating the theft. Anyone with information on the matter is asked to contact Officer Adam Greco at 426-5841.
South Main Crash
A two-vehicle accident occurred on northbound South Main Street at its intersection with Glover Avenue about 8:38 am September 15.
Northbound motorist Lisa Nicholson, 32, of Thomaston, who was driving a 2005 Toyota Matrix, stopped at a red traffic signal, after which the Toyota was struck from behind by northbound motorist Raymond Vaichus, 58, of Watertown, who was driving a commercial 2002 International van, police said.
There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Vaichus for following too closely.
Gate Crasher
After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, a 39-year-old man turned himself over to them at the police station midday on September 16, and was charged with evading responsibility in connection with his allegedly having driven a 1992 Buick LeSabre sedan into a closed swing gate at the Trades Lane main entrance to Fairfield Hills in July and then leaving the scene.
Police said they charged Ronald Heston, Jr, of Shelton with the offense. Police said that they learned of the collision at about 10 pm July 26. The heavily damaged gate was still in place at Fairfield Hills on the morning of September 18.
After arrest processing, police released Heston on $200 bail for a September 30 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
