Light The Night
To the Editor:
Happy Tenth Birthday to Light the Night Walk! This national fundraiser takes place every fall. Connecticut has five walks. On Saturday, September 27, one of these walks will take place at WestConnâs Downtown Campus on White Street. Last year over 500 people walked and carried lighted balloons. Earlier in the day, volunteers brought some lighted balloons to the patients on the oncology floor at Danbury Hospital. The walkersâ route included passing near Danbury Hospital so the patients on the oncology floor would see the walkers carrying their balloons.
Our team, Gregâs Group, walks in memory of our son who lost his battle with AML leukemia in October 2000. Who was Greg? He was just 17, a senior at Newtown High School hoping to be an architect, just got his license, just a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society, just co-editor of the yearbook, just co-captain of the Boysâ Swimming & Diving Team, just one of three drum majors of the marching band.
Please come join the family-friendly event either as a walker on our team, a volunteer for community service hours, or send a donation. To register for the walk go to www.lightthenight.org/ct and click on Gregâs Group. Did you know that more boys under the age of 20 in the Northeast will be diagnosed with leukemia? (see Danbury News- Times, 6/8/08).
Help us fight this blood cancer.
