On The Pitch … Youth Soccer Highlights

Boys

U10

Newtown Storm 5, Darien 1: Newtown avenged a loss in the SCOR Tournament behind two goals by Hayes Kelchner and one each from Luke Caplan, Shane Gattey and Mike Meyers. Thomas Leuci and Tiernan Keene played aggressively on offense and at midfield and Matthew Tassiello and Jack Riley played shut-down defense on the Darien Offense. 

U12

Norwalk CSC 6, Newtown White Lightning 3: Kevin Droniak scored off an assist by Jeremy Doski and Patrick Rowley set up Doski for the second goal. Ryan King, Michael Biancardi and Carter Nordman played aggressively in the midfield. Michael Cook, Sawyer Conrad and Knute Johnson led the defensive efforts.

U13

Westport 4 , Newtown Beasts 2: Matt Mossbarger and Andrew Martinez scored goals for Newtown. Wesley Morlock and Doug Miller were strong on defense and Jonathan Schwartz also had a solid game.   

Girls

U11

Darien 3, Comets 1: Field player Victoria Kirkman made a big save while keeper Emily Charash was defending the other end of the net. Mikayla Kuligowski and Alana Murray were strong at midfield. Despite additional offensive pressure from Portia Baudisch and Kimberly Brello, the Comets couldn’t overcome an early deficit. The defense remained strong behind the hard work of Veronica Moyer and Julia Schoeni, while Katie Mossbarger took a turn in goal.  

U12

Lightning 3, Fairfield 0: Jessica Keller sliced a corner kick, Emily Riley deflected the ball in front of the goal and Sarah Lynch finished off the play by putting a shot into the net — all before the ball touched the ground. Keller had the second goal for the Lightning, on a penalty kick, and Lynch scored again for the third. Megan Meyer and Shelby Tolla were aggressive in the midfield and Dale Shearin hustled on defense. Kate Fallon, Emily Riley and Helene Sorensen were tough in the nets for the shutout.

U14

New Canaan 3, Newtown Flash 2: Stephanie Roman played an outstanding game with a goal and a corner kick which set up a goal by Tressa Scott.  Jilliana Ciamarra was strong on offense and had an assist.

Greenwich 2, Newtown Flash 0: Brittany Tolla controlled the ball offensively, but the Flash was unable to get past Greenwich’s defense. Bianca Solano and Tressa Scott were tenacious on the defensive end, as was Emily Brisson who blocked several difficult shots.

Earthquakes 3, Cyclones 0: Sydney Allen, Emily Papp and Catherine Neave each scored goals for the Earthquakes. Rebecca Frank, Jessica and Kelly Coughlin and Emily Turco all had contributions on offense and defense. For the Cyclones, Nicole Mendonca and Emma Lardner  had all-around strong performances and Lauren Meyer and Zoe Brodsky played well on defense.

Team No. 3 defeated Team No. 2 by the score of 5-0: For Team 3, Emily Grimes and Jamie Duncan each scored a goal and Meghan Grimes scored three. Jen Davies and Margo Trainer played strong all-around games and Jesse Sailer earned the shutout in goal. For Team 2, Jenna Stromsky, Katie Clark, Emily Campbell and Megan Milano all had strong games.
