Robert Morlath Named Troop 270âs 58th Eagle Scout
Newtown Boy Scout Troop 270 recently inducted its 58th Eagle Scout, Robert C Morlath III. A special Court of Honor was held at Newtown Meeting House and was attended by many family and friends of Rob, as well as the members of Troop 270.
The Eagle Scout award is scoutingâs highest honor and is earned only by a few who participate in scouting. Rob had several difficult requirements to complete, including leadership positions in the troop, earning a minimum of 21 merit badges, and completing a challenging service project. Rob earned a total of 28 merit badges.
His Eagle Scout project was to upgrade a large portion of Alâs Trail on the property behind Reed Intermediate School. This project included placing map boxes at two locations on the trail as well as clearing undesirable invasive species of brush and plants on the trail.
During Robâs seven-year career as a Boy Scout he attended summer camp at Camp Sequassen in New Hartford and Camp Yawgoog in Rockville, R.I. He also attended the troopâs High Adventure trips: hiking in the White Mountains in New Hampshire, canoeing in Saranac Lakes of New York, and cycling at Cape Cod in Massachusetts.
He is a member of scoutingâs National Honor Society, the Order of the Arrow. While a member of Troop 270 Rob served as senior patrol leader, the top youth leadership position in the troop.
The scout leaders of Troop 270 expressed their thanks to Rob for being a role model for the younger scouts and offered their congratulations for his achievement.
