The Knishes Are Coming

SOUTHBURY — For a long time, the joke at the Jewish Federation’s Love & Knishes Lunch Program has been that there is a lot of love, but no knishes, at the Tuesday gatherings.

That will change during lunch at noon on September 23 when the award-winning Jordan Caterers of Cheshire promises to serve knishes along with a chicken dinner. Lunch will be followed by “Autumn Nocturnes,” featuring songs like “Maple Leaf Rag,” “Moonlight in Vermont,” and “Autumn Leaves.”

Pianist Jeanne Hinkson of Woodbury will perform with Artie Schnabel of Heritage Village on clarinet and John Colella on drums in a collection of songs about the beauty of fall in New England. The luncheon and music take place in the Federation’s social hall at 444 Main Street North.

Lunch reservations are requested by September 20. All programs are open to the public, and there is a suggested lunch donation of $7 for adults age 60 and better and $9.50 for those under 60.

To RSVP, call Debby Horowitz, Brownstein Jewish Family Service Director, at 267-3177 extension 105.
