Family Day Sees Large Turnout

Excited children and families packed the Edmond Town Hall gymnasium on Saturday, September 8, enjoying the activities and performances during a family fun day presented by EverWonder Children’s Museum.

“Newtown and the surrounding communities are full of families looking for entertaining and educational activities for their children,” said Johanna Hillefeld, museum Board Member and event chairperson.  “Our family day event was meant to give a small glimpse of what a children’s museum can offer this community and it was extremely well received.  We are very pleased with the outcome.”

The children’s museum is an emerging concept aimed at providing a hands-on learning facility for children through the age of 12.  EverWonder Children’s Museum currently consists of a Board of Directors and volunteers dedicated to opening a children’s museum that will serve the greater Newtown area.

Despite the heat and humidity Saturday, hundreds attended the event where children got their hands dirty making foaming monsters, tested their strength with pulleys, and challenged their minds with a laser puzzle.

Board members were delighted with the number of attendees and the level of excitement they brought with them. The board will continue to focus on building museum awareness, while moving forward with its capital campaign.

Kristin Chiriatti, president and founder of EverWonder Children’s Museum, reflects on future plans: “We have a lot of work ahead of us, but we are confident that it will be worth it in the end. Seeing the excitement on children’s faces when they build an instrument and it works, or when they put the finishing touches on a painting, remind us who we’re working for — our children and grandchildren.”

Once opened, the museum will house hands-on interactive exhibits, an art room, live performance area, and a space for visitors to see science demonstrations. For more information about EverWonder Children’s Museum, e-mail info@everwondermuseum.com or visit www.everwondermuseum.com.

Saturday’s event was made possible with support from major sponsors such as Vasi’s Gymnastics, Wesley Learning Center, and Happy Family.
