RSO Performance Will Honor Great Composers

RIDGEFIELD — Rossini, Mendelssohn, Schubert... Great romantic composers all.

Their work will highlight the September 30 season opening concert by Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra in the Anne Richardson Auditorium at Ridgefield High School..

For years concert goers across the globe have thrilled to Rossini’s comic Cinderella with its full helping of crescendo and happy melodrama, marveled at one of the greatest of Mendelssohn’s violin concertos (the one in E minor), and stood in awe of Schubert’s towering Symphony No. 9. Providing a look at classical music’s early romantic period, these three works will be performed during the season-opener under the direction of Ankush Bahl, the first of the talented contract conductors replacing Sidney Rothstein for the season.

A highlight of the evening will be the appearance of 14-year-old prodigy Harriet Langley, who was the youngest musician invited to perform at Ground Zero upon the first anniversary of 9/11. Her credentials as a youthful soloist are enormous and include appearances with leading symphony orchestras throughout the country. Miss Langley will join RSO for the Mendelssohn work, which critics have labeled one of the world’s greatest violin concertos.

Each of the season’s four subscription concerts start at 8 pm and are performed in the Anne M. Richardson Auditorium at Ridgefield High School, 700 North Salem Road. Later in the season RSO will offer “Mozart Miracles,” on December 2; “Valentine Vocals” on January 27, 2007; and “Brahms Blockbusters” in April. The orchestra also has a few performances at Ridgefield Playhouse and a family concert is scheduled for Ridgefield High School.

Single concert tickets range from $25 to $50 for adults, and $15 to $30 for students. Season subscriptions are available.

Visit RidgefieldSymphony.org for a full outline of concert events and details, and to order tickets. Tickets for all concerts can also be reserved by calling the RSO box office at 203-438-3889.
