Even thirty years after his death, John Lennon remains one of the famous musicians in the world. For some time, a fan movement has been building to commemorate what would have been the music legend’s 70th birthday on October 9, 2010. And so as part of that, The Palace in Danbury has secured a performance by THE QUARRYMEN for Friday, October 8, and will also offer a free screening of Nowhere Boy, which chronicles the early beginnings of Lennon’s music career and his rise to fame.

The Quarrymen, of course, is the band Lennon started in 1956 with five of his friends. While the band eventually changed its roster and name to become the Beatles, the surviving original members of the band reunited in 1997 and has continued to perform together.

Active members include Rod Davis on guitar and banjo, Len Garry on guitar and homemade tea-chest bass, and Colin Hanton on drums. (The other original members of the band were the late Eric Griffiths and Lennon.). Member Pete Shotton has health issues that preclude him from touring.

Tickets for this show are $40 and $70, which includes the screening of the film, which will run after the Quarrymen perform. Call the Palace’s box office (203-794-9944) or visit www.ThePalaceDanbury.com to purchase.

If you’re interested, the website HappyBirthdayJohn.org lists numerous performances and events that will be taking place next month related to the 70th anniversary of the late music legend’s birth.

*KE$HA, who is supposed to be this big pop music sensation, will be at Mohegan Sun Arena on Saturday, October 23, and yet less than 5,000 tickets sold during the first weekend of her on-sale for that show.

The floor plan for this particular show will be “Half House,” which means just 5,000 of the usual 10,000 seats will be available. Tickets for Ke$ha’s October concert went on sale last Saturday morning, and plenty were still available as of Monday morning. Priced at $32.50, tickets are available through the casino’s box office and through TicketMaster vendors.

*THE AUSTRALIAN PINK FLOYD SHOW (which I believe has been here before so I’m going to say…) will return to Connecticut on Friday, November 5. Tickets for that show at the Oakdale Theatre in Wallingord are $29.50 and $39.50 and will be on sale Friday, September 24, at 10 am, through LiveNation.com.

*LIFEHOUSE will be at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods on Friday, October 15. American Idol winner Kris Allen will be opening, and tickets are already on sale ($30, $35, and $45).

*Meanwhile, a scheduling conflict has caused the October 5 GORILLAZ concert scheduled for the Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford to be cancelled. LiveNation.com and TicketMaster.com purchases will be automatically refunded, all other customers may receive refunds at point of purchase. For additional refund information call the theater at 203-265-1501.

Until next week, I’ll be seeing you… on the road.
