Helen Mae Gottschalk, or âAuntie Helenâ as everyone in Bennington called her, 93, a resident of the Fairwinds Community Care Home in North Bennington, Vt., died September 17. She was born in Stepney, March 13, 1917, and was the daughter of Mary (Ulicny) and John Klein.
Mrs Gottschalk loved her home in Newtown, but was glad she got to spend her last two years in Vermont, always a favorite vacation spot for her and her late husband, Harrison.
She received her education in Connecticut, and was a 1935 graduate of Central High School in Bridgeport.
For more than 30 years, she was employed in the engineering department at Bassick Manufacturing in Bridgeport. She married Harrison Gottschalk on November 26, 1953.
Mrs Gottschalk was a member of the Stepney Baptist Church, and a member of the Newtown Garden Club for 35 years.
Survivors include two nephews, Rick and David Klein and families. She has one step-granddaughter. Two brothers predeceased Mrs Gottschalk.
A memorial service will be held Friday afternoon, September 24, at 2 pm, at the Stepney Baptist Church. There are no calling hours. Interment will take place privately in the Stepney Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Stepney Baptist Church, through the E. P. Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington VT 05201.
