To The Editor:

Bruce Walczak is running for First Selectman and he has my vote. Bruce cares deeply for Newtown and has served the community in many capacities; as a member of the Police Commission, the Economic Development Commission, and as a long-time member and president of the Newtown Lions Club. In his professional life Bruce managed operations, budgets, client relations, and strategic planning. This considerable experience will serve him well running Newtown’s municipal operation. He has the energy, business acumen, and strength of character that we deserve in our town leader.

Bruce has never been afraid to get ‘into the weeds’ to assure he has the depth of understanding needed to challenge out-moded ideas and processes. He will attend Board and Commission meetings so that he is informed of important discussions and decisions being made on our behalf. Moreover, Bruce will be proactive and lead our town to develop an informed and actionable Plan of Conservation and Development.

There is a real tension between the competing desires for economic development and lower taxes while maintaining open space, preventing indiscriminate development and increased traffic. Bruce will lead on this issue and assure the electorate is informed and their voices are heard.

Speaking of traffic, are you satisfied with the current level of traffic enforcement? I am not and I trust Bruce to address this issue head-on.

Bruce is the candidate for First Selectman that will lead with transparency, energy and thoughtfulness. I know that Bruce will work tirelessly for Newtown. So when you head to the polls I hope you’ll join me in voting for Bruce Walczak for First Selectman.
