A Peaceful Celebration

When 9/11 occurred, The Fraser-Woods School made the theme of their opening celebration for that year simply “Peace,” beginning an annual tradition at the school. That year and every year since, the entire school community — parents, grandparents, teachers, children, and staff — gather in the gym to form a peace circle. A candle is lit and a moment of silence for peace is observed.

At this year’s celebration, Head of School Myriam Woods spoke briefly about the pursuit of peace and everyone joined the school chorus as they sang the school song “Crossroads” and “Make New Friends.” The school’s common area was decorated with artwork done by the children in the peace theme.

After the ceremony, an ice cream social followed. Everyone enjoyed sundaes and cones made with ice cream from The Ice Cream Shop, an edible part of the tradition.
