Newtown Youth Wrestling Ready For New Season
Newtown Youth Wrestling Ready For New Season
The Newtown Youth Wrestling program has been busy, this past summer and into the fall, gearing up for the upcoming seventh season. The team is open to all students, of all ability levels, in kindergarten through eighth grade.
The squad will compete in weekly matches in December and January against teams from Danbury, Bethel, New Milford, New Fairfield, Stamford, and Ridgefield. In addition there are opportunities to participate in weekend tournaments throughout the region.
Under the direction of veteran coach Chris Bray, the team will focus on learning the basics of folkstyle wrestling: conditioning, focus, discipline, sportsmanship, confidence and strength. After being generously hosted by Hawley Elementary School last year, the team has a new home at Sandy Hook Elementary School and all practices and home meets will be there this season.
Beginning October 18 and running until February 3, the first session will be held Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.Â
Registration is currently ongoing and may be completed through the Newtown Parks and Recreation Department and on-line at the recreation department link on www.newtown-ct.gov.
